St. Michael's Regional High, opened in 1986 under the jurisdiction of the former Roman Catholic School Board. It was built to replace the aging St. Edward's High School. When it opened it was one of two high schools on Bell Island, the other being St. Boniface, under the jurisdiction of the Avalon Consolidated School Board. Both high schools were grades 7 - Level III.
As a result of provincial school reform in the late 1990's the school system on Bell Island was restructured. St. Boniface closed and St. Michael's became the only high school serving students in grades 9 - Level III. St. Augustine's became a K- 3 school and Immaculate Conception School went from a K-6 school to a grades 4 - 8 school.
In 2004, Immaculate Conception school was closed and St. Michael's once again became a grade 7 - Level III school.
Currently, we have a population of 242 students with a teaching staff of 21.5 units. We offer the standard provincial curriculum and a variety of extra curricular activities - highlighted by our Islanders Volleyball Club.
